The Brown County Artisans was the idea of Jerry Baughman, who is better known as the blacksmith at the Brown County Historical Society's Pioneer Village. A group of like minded artisans came together in 2005, dreaming of starting a Folk School which would help to perpetuate and to pass down the homely arts of everyday living to a new generation. Mainly a teaching group, the Brown County Artisan members work in jewelry, pottery, basket making, gourd art, fiber arts such as spinning, weaving, quilting & knitting, various forms of metalwork, painting, woodworking, stained glass, photography, calligraphy, and stone work also! All of our members are committed to teaching their skills. Classes and workshops available. By displaying the work of our skilled members, we hope the viewers will come to have a greater repect for and knowledge of local artisans, and will wish to let us share our knowledge with them through our classes.
